Ranking the iconic bosses of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater

from worst to best

9. The Pain

Voiced by: Gregg Berger

Dressed like a giant bumblebee, The Pain isn't the most interesting of the Cobras, but he's a fitting introduction to the  elite unit of bosses.

8. The Fear

Voiced by: Michael Bell

The Fear uses stealth camo to render himself invisible and poinsoned crossbow bolts to instil fear in his enemies.

7. Ocelot

Voiced by: Josh Keaton

While it's not the best boss battle in the game, it's awesome to fight a younger version of one of Metal Gear Solid's most iconic characters.

6. The Fury

Voiced by: Richard Doyle

The Fury went to space and came back a different man. Now he wears a space suit, uses a jetpack, and sets people on fire with his flamethrower.

5. Colonel Volgin

Voiced by: Josh Keaton

Volgin (AKA Thunderbolt) is incredibly strong. It’s a climactic and testing fight that exemplifies the fearsome character  that the Colonel embodies.

4. Shagohod

The Shagohod is not a conventional Metal Gear. It’s a screw-propelled mobile nuclear ballistic missile system. The boss battle comes in two stages, and it's one of the best Metal Gear fights in the series.

3. The Sorrow

Voiced by: David Thomas

Snake's battle against The Sorrow is one of the most profound and haunting in gaming history. It's not a typical boss fight,  but it's all the better for it.

2. The Boss

The fight against Snake's mentor is the perfect conclusion to Metal Gear Solid 3. It's a test of everything he's learned and sets up his troubled future as Big Boss.

1. The End

Voiced by: J. Grant Albrecht

The tense sniper battle with The End is not just the best boss fight in MGS3, but one of the greatest in gaming history. Perfection.
