Some horror games transcend the video game medium and become franchises of serious cultural significance. Games like Resident Evil and Silent Hill have broken free from the shackles of video game consoles and have embedded themselves in the consciousness of those who have never even picked up a game pad. One thing they and almost all other games have in common is their price tag, sitting in between the standard $40-$70 price range. But one legendary title, Spooky Men, has bet on itself and has dared to be different. Spooky Men is the $1 million Steam game you never knew you needed.

The Steam Store is full of goofy video games with whacky titles and crazy price tags. Scroll far enough through the extensive catalogue of games and you’ll probably find something titled “Anime Laser Badonkers” priced at $100. Nevertheless, Spooky Men – which formerly cost a conservative $100,000 – has seemingly smashed all records with developer Bloody Bear pricing it at a totally reasonable $1 million on Steam for a brief period earlier this week.

Spooky Men, which sees the player explore a haunted house while encountering scary males, asks “Can you make it out alive?” But the more important question is: do you have the funds to make it in to begin with? Apparently, some wealthy individuals do and many of them have been left spooked to satisfaction.

Steam user RevolverSnake412 wrote in their review, “This game is fun with the homies”.

CheeseChip454 said, “I love spookying my friends so goofy”.

“I would like to say Bloody Bear has an absolute masterpiece on their hands,” declared Dcfan200 in their highly complimentary review.

One player, mrplitplot, simply said, “im rich” – which I suppose you have to be to enjoy the video game sensation that is Spooky Men.

Unfortunately, some players weren’t so happy with their pricey purchase. Steam user Sheenz explained, “I am not recommending this game for one reason… there are no sexy girls.” He also gave the developers some unsolicited but helpful advice, “i think the developers should add girls into this game so it can be spooky men and sexy girls.”

The official Steam description says that Spooky Men is a 1-8 player co-op survival horror game. The aim: to complete tasks and exorcise the malevolent demon. Apparently, players have to use the wits they didn’t have when they bought the game to “distract the ghost and survive its attacks”. If that description doesn’t sell you on this masterpiece, nothing will.

If you’re brave enough to check out Spooky Men, you’re in luck. Bloody Bear has reduced the $1 million price tag to just $200/£168 – an absolutely phenomenal saving of $999,800! What a bargain.
