They just couldn’t help themselves, could they? The mysterious Blue Box Game Studios is at it again with their questionable marketing tactics. And this time it isn’t Silent Hill they’re using to hype up their yet-to-be-seen survival horror game Abandoned. It’s Metal Gear Solid. Actually, it’s not even the game itself they’re promoting. Blue Box are building to the launch of the Abandoned PS5 app, which will supposedly showcase Abandoned‘s first ‘realtime experience’ trailers.

In case you’ve been living under a rock for the last few months, speculation around Abandoned has been rampant. It all stems from its initial teaser trailer which debuted back in April. Since then, Hideo Kojima (creator of Metal Gear and Death Stranding) fans have gone down the rabbit role in search of clues that Abandoned is actually his next game. More specifically, they believe it’s the long-rumoured Silent Hill reboot/remake/sequel. So, why are we now talking about Metal Gear Solid?

Is Abandoned a new Metal Gear game?

It’s still unclear if there is actually any connection between Abandoned and Metal Gear. If we’re talking straight facts, Abandoned and Blue Box have nothing to do with the legendary stealth series. At least that’s what the studio have said. Fans made the connection with Metal Gear Solid when Blue Box Game Studios curiously tweeted this promotional image for the Abandoned trailers app:

At first glance, it looks pretty basic. The game’s called Abandoned. The app will deliver a ‘realtime experience’ for the trailers. It’s only on PS5. Now look a bit closer. There appears to be the blurred face of a man in the background wearing a familiar item of clothing. An eyepatch. And aside from bandanas, if there’s one garment MGS is known for it’s eyepatches. Big Boss had one. Solidus Snake had one. Old Snake had one. And fans were quick to point this out on Twitter. And that’s it – that’s what started the latest Abandoned raucous.

What is the Abandoned Realtime Experience app?

The Abandoned PS5 app has been retitled the ‘Realtime Experience app’. Essentially, it does what it says on the tin. You install the app on your PS5 and can watch realtime trailers (yes – plural) for Abandoned. The benefit of this over a trailer uploaded to YouTube is that you’ll actually be able to see how the game performs on PS5.

When will the Abandoned PS5 App be released?

If you want to know “when is the Abandoned PS5 app released?”, we have the answer. 29th July, 2021. That’s not long to wait. However, the app will be mostly useless for a while. This most recent promotion from Blue Box Game Studios has been done to encourage players to ‘pre-load’ the app. An ‘introduction’ (opening teaser) will then be delivered on 10th August, followed by the first actual trailer later in the month. It remains to be seen if any new details about the true nature of Abandoned will be revealed following the pre-load. But fans will likely have to wait a couple of weeks for anything substantial.

When is Abandoned coming out?

As we’ve previously mentioned, Abandoned’s release date is set for Q4 2021. It will be exclusive to PS5.

But is Abandoned PS5 actually Metal Gear Solid? Is Abandoned PS5 actually Silent Hill? We don’t know, but we’re doubtful. Blue Box are adamant they aren’t affiliated to Hideo Kojima or Konami. So why do they keep tweeting things like this that only further the wild conspiracy theories? Perhaps because Hideo Kojima really is behind it all. And he’s playing us like a damn fiddle!

Do you believe Abandoned is somehow related to Metal Gear or Silent Hill? Are you excited to watch the first trailer? Let us know in the comment section below and don’t forget to check out our other gaming articles…
