This Baldur’s Gate 3 guide explains how to fix the “You cannot fast travel right now” message.

Fast travel is incredibly useful in Baldur’s Gate 3. It saves significant amounts of time when travelling between locations. While exploration is one of the best things about BG3, trekking through the same areas again and again would get tiresome.

It’s also really easy to do. Once you’ve discovered a waypoint, you can open your map and select the location you want to fast travel to and it’s as simple as that. However, I recently found myself unable to fast travel. I was in the Whispering Depths and when I went to fast travel out of the area I received the following message: “You cannot fast travel right now”.

Naturally, I was confused as there were no enemies nearby or anything that would obviously impact my ability to fast travel. As such, I thought it may be because was underground. I left the Whispering Depths and tried to fast travel again from the Blighted Village. But I was still unable to fast travel.

After pausing for a few moments and investigating the issue, I soon found the solution. Handily, it was very straightforward to fix.

I fixed the “You cannot fast travel right now” message by reviving a downed party member.

Revive the downed party member.

If you are unable to fast travel, check that all your party members are together, not downed, and alive. I realised that Karlach was downed following a fight in the Whispering Depths. I hadn’t noticed that she had been downed at the end of the fight.

If a party member is downed, you will not be able to fast travel. Therefore, I approached Karlach and used “Help” to revive her. I was then able to fast travel out of the area.
