Somehow, six years have passed since the release of the original Dying Light back in 2015. That game was a huge success for developer Techland and fans expected an inevitable sequel. Dying Light 2 Stay Human was announced somewhat prematurely at E3 2018, but after being delayed once, a release date was finally confirmed for December 2021. However, the game was delayed again in September which disappointed fans hoping to see it by Christmas.

Dying Light 2 Stay Human follows in the footsteps of the original. It promises more unchained zombie parkour action with violence and horror by the truck load. With Dying Light 2‘s new release date fast approaching, here’s everything you need to know about the new sequel.

Dying Light 2 Release Date

For those asking “when does Dying Light 2 release” or “when is Dying Light 2 coming out”, we’re happy to report that a release date of February 4, 2022 has been confirmed by Techland. The game will be coming to PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC.

It’s a couple of months later than expected, and a couple of years later than originally announced, but at least we know. And hopefully, it won’t be delayed any further. Six years is a long time to wait for a sequel and its release is tantalisingly close.

What is Dying Light 2 about?

Dying Light 2, like its predecessor, is set in an post-apocalyptic open-world overrun by zombies. This particular breed of the undead are sensitive to light but become stronger and more dangerous at night. In the game, you take control of Aiden Caldwell as he navigates the perils of the new world to solve a mystery from his past. Being a role-playing game, your decisions impact everything around you. From settlements to factions, what you decide to do can have far-reaching consequences.

Where does Dying Light 2 take place?

Dying Light 2 is set in The City, a post-apocalyptic European city that is flooded with zombies.

When is it set?

When is Dying Light 2 set? It takes place 15 years after the original Dying Light. That means that the hordes of undead have had years of mutation and evolution making them even more deadly than before.

Gameplay

Being a new entry in the Dying Light series, Stay Human further develops the established parkour-driven traversal and immensely brutal and creative combat.

In the game, players can use insane parkour skills to rapidly manoeuvre around The City and evade the walking dead. When cornered by zombies or facing human enemies, Aiden can use blunt force weapons and blades to dispatch foes. The combat is intended to be satisfying and fun. Machetes, for example, can be used to slice of limbs to cripple opponents. Tools like a grappling hook and ranged weapons like a bow can also be crafted and used to your advantage. Combat all comes together in a varied package that you can tailor to your play style.

Co-op

Dying Light 2 employs a heavy focus on co-op gameplay. Just like the first game, the the sequel supports co-op for 2-4 players. Due to the deep role-playing elements of the game, each player’s world is different. That means that when you join a friend’s world, their version of The City will be differ from yours depending on the choices they have made.

Dying Light 2 Crossplay

The game has been confirmed to support crossplay between available platforms. That means you will be able to play with friends whatever console you own.

We know this because the Microsoft Store listing for the game details “Xbox cross-platform co-op” as a feature. Notably, it also lists “Xbox cross-gen multiplayer”, meaning users will be able to play between Xbox One and Xbox Series X. Naturally, it isn’t much of a leap to assume that similar cross-gen support will be available for PlayStation users.
