The Grant Theft Auto VI trailer debuted just one week ago but it has already amassed a staggering 142 million views on Rockstar’s YouTube channel alone. Now, fans are imagining what the next GTA game would look like if it was made for consoles of the past. With that in mind, YouTuber Jushton has produced a cool remake of the GTA VI trailer with PS1 graphics.

The trailer, which recreates the first 23-seconds of the actual thing, starts with the familiar notes of Tom Petty’s Love is a Long Road.

The first thing we see is a sunset over Vice City, just like in the real trailer. However, in this version, the graphics and lighting are massively downgraded to match those found in games on the original PlayStation.

Next up, we see a blocky jail yard, Lucia in her prison cell, and her interview with the corrections officer.

“Lucia, do you know why you’re here?” she asks.

“Bad luck, I guess?” Lucia responds.

The character models look straight out of the PS1-era, complete with low resolution facial features and oddly shaped bodies. Their mouthes don’t move (just like most classic games), so their heads bob up and down as they talk.

Next, the camera cuts to the iconic view of the Vice City coastline that we saw in the GTA VI trailer. However, this time, it is much more sparsely populated with just nine buildings and a beach devoid of activity.

The PS1 trailer then recreates the montage of clips from around Vice City and Leonida, including the flamingos, hovercraft, speed-boats and more. Eagle-eyed viewers will also be able to spot a T-posing Walter White thrown in there as a cool easter egg.

While the short 23-second remake gives us just a glimpse of what GTA VI might look like on the PS1, fans were incredibly complimentary of Jushton’s hard work in the comments.

@NikTek wrote, “This is a masterpiece!” Another user said, “Absolutely need the full version!!”

Others imagined how viewers might have reacted if the trailer debuted 20+ years ago. “‘Wow looks so realistic,’ said some dude in the year 2000,” wrote @Charlotte4Short.

As of writing, Jushton’s GTA VI PS1 trailer has received over 108,000 views on YouTube. However, the trailer has been re-uploaded on TikTok numerous times. One version has amassed more than 5 million views.
