The Hogwarts Legacy release date seems to be set for mid to late 2022. This news comes after the game was delayed back in January 2021. Ever since, fans have been left speculating when it will arrive. But now, thanks to comments by Warner Bros. GM Rachel Wakley, we know it will come after Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbeldore.
Hogwarts Legacy Release Date
Hogwarts Legacy, set in the same world as the iconic Harry Potter franchise, is coming out sometime after 8th April 2022. We know this because Rachel Wakley, in an interview with Toy World magazine, referred to two major releases for the Wizarding World franchise in 2022. The first being Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbeldore, which is due out in April. And the second being the Hogwarts Legacy video game.
“The second major release of 2022 will be for a new console game: Hogwarts Legacy,” Wakley told Toy World. She added, “From what we’ve seen, the launch will be well worth the wait and will deliver a unique way for fans to interact with the franchise.” So, there we have it. The Hogwarts Legacy release date will fall some time after the release of the third Fantastic Beasts film. That means we can expect it in mid to late 2022. Unfortunately, Wakley wasn’t more specific and didn’t state when exactly the game will come out. But at least we have an idea.
What is Hogwart’s Legacy about?
The game will be set in the 1800s, long before Harry Potter attends Hogwarts. Being an open-world RPG, Hogwarts Legacy will allow players to control a student of their own creation. You’ll control them on their journey at the magical wizarding school. Players will be able to choose their Hogwarts house, as well as explore well-known locations and the school itself within game’s open-world.
Being a Harry Potter video game, Hogwarts Legacy gives players the ability to cast spells, tame magical creatures, brew potions and master wizarding combat abilities. Most interestingly, there will be a morality system in the game. So, if you fancy yourself more of a Draco Malfoy than a Harry Potter, you’ll get the chance to explore the darker side of Hogwarts.
Hogwarts Legacy Platforms
Hogwarts Legacy will be available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC. No multiplayer element has been confirmed as yet, so it’s unclear if the game will feature cross-play features. Of course, it would be fantastic if aspiring wizards on PlayStation could play with their friends over on Xbox. Although, we know it’s a bit of a Gryffindor/Slytherin thing.
