Is FIFA 22 Free To Play? A Huge Change Could Be On Its Way!

With the recent announcement of FIFA 22 (surprise?), we’ve been discussing what to expect. The almost three decade-old series is introducing HyperMotion Technology this time round. And fans have been wondering how much it will really change FIFA games. But now they’ve got another question on their minds – is FIFA 22 free to play?

The speculation began this week after a supposed leak regarding FIFA 23 (more on that in a moment). And with more franchises shifting towards the free-to-play model – Call of Duty, Pro Evolution Soccer and Halo to name a few – it feels like an obvious next step for FIFA. However, is a free instalment in one of gaming’s biggest series likely to arrive this year? And what else do we know about it so far?

Is FIFA 22 Free To Play? Here’s the answer…

No. FIFA 22 won’t be free-to-play. EA haven’t released any information regarding a free-to-play version of the game, and it’s VERY unlikely such a dramatic change would be made with zero fanfare. Plus, FIFA 22 is already being listed for purchase online as you can see over on EA’s website. It’s also worth pointing out that we know next-gen upgrades for FIFA 22 will only be available with the digital-only ‘Ultimate Edition’. Ultimate Edition certainly isn’t free and will cost players £89.99/$99.99.

Will FIFA 23 be free?

New rumours suggest that next year’s instalment – FIFA 23 – may well be free-to-play and include cross-play. Now, a Twitter ‘leak’ from supposed FIFA insider @DonkTrading is currently the only evidence for this. And while it might not sound like much to go off, the gaming industry moving towards free-to-play models definitely lends itself to FIFA eventually becoming free. Heck, FIFA‘s closest competitor – the freshly rebranded Pro Evolution Soccer dubbed ‘eFootball‘ – has made the jump and will be free. eFootball will arrive on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Android, and iOS later this year.

Will there be a FIFA 22 demo?

A FIFA 22 demo hasn’t been confirmed yet, but each yearly FIFA title usually gets one in September. FIFA 21 didn’t receive a demo, so FIFA 22 could also follow this trend and give it a miss. We don’t know for sure just yet, but we probably won’t have to wait long for an answer.

Is FIFA 22 Free To Play: Can I use FIFA 22 Web App?

If you can’t wait to get started in FIFA 22, one way to (sort of) access it for free ahead of release is the FIFA 22 Web App. The FIFA Web App allows you to control your FUT club while you’re out and about. And you can also access your Ultimate Team early and get ahead of the game before FIFA 22‘s official debut.

How to play FIFA 22 early

Does FIFA 22 have early access? You can start playing the full FIFA 22 early if you pre-order the ‘Ultimate Edition’ of the game. FIFA 22 is due for release on 1st October 2021, but you can get started four days sooner with ‘Ultimate Edition’. Pre-orders and early access offers like this rightly get a lot of criticism, but if you want to get stuck in ASAP this is your best bet. Alternatively, you can access 10 hours of FIFA 22 one week before release if you have an EA Play subscription.
