The next few weeks are shaping up to be a killer period for video game releases. Between the hotly anticipated Dead Space remake and the controversial but impressive looking Hogwarts Legacy, fans have a lot to look forward to. However, prior to the launch of those, Square Enix’s new RPG Forspoken is set to launch on 24 January. But is Forspoken a PS5 exclusive?

Before we get into that, let’s take a look at what players can expect from Forspoken.

Forspoken is a new action RPG from developers Luminous Productions and publisher Square Enix. The new IP stars Ella Balinska (Netflix’s Resident Evil) as Frey Holland.

Frey is a typical New York City girl who winds up far from home in the magical world of Athia.

In Forspoken, Frey faces off against the Tantas. They are a tyrannical ruling clan that control Athia. Frey must use her freshly discovered magical powers to explore Athia, defeat dangerous foes, and find her way home.

The new game has drawn attention thanks to its fantasy open-world and unique traversal mechanics which allow Frey to dash and fly across Athia using magical parkour.

Back in December, Square Enix released a short demo for Forspoken. Reactions online were somewhat mixed; however, that was partly due to its limited scope.

Still, Forspoken could end up being a surprise hit. And it’s always refreshing to try a new IP in a world of endless sequels. But can fans expect it to come to all consoles? Or is Forspoken a PS5 exclusive?

Is Forspoken A PS5 Exclusive?

For developers and publishers, exclusive titles are a way of guaranteeing some upfront revenue for their new game. In exchange, Microsoft or Sony can use that game’s release to lure people in to buying their console or subscribing to their on-demand service.

Games like Death Stranding, Horizon Forbidden West, and God of War Ragnarok are notable AAA titles that are exclusive to PlayStation. 2021’s Deathloop was also limited to PS5 on launch. Although, after its timed exclusivity period ended, it was made available on Xbox.

So, will Forspoken ever be available on Xbox?

Is Forspoken a PS5 exclusive? Forspoken will be a PS5 exclusive for two years. It will become available for other consoles in 2025. However, it will launch on PC at the same time as PS5 on 24 January 2023.

This means that there is a way for fans who don’t own a PS5 to get their hands on Forspoken. Although, if you don’t have a PS5 or PC, you will need to wait for the game to be made available on Xbox in a couple of years time.

Of course, this move is simply a way to keep the game off Xbox Series X|S which will be disappointing for some fans.
