Oppenheimer is one of the year’s most anticipated movies. It tells the story of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the theoretical physicist known as the “father of the atomic bomb”. From director Christopher Nolan, Oppenheimer is set for release on 21 July 2023. With hype now reaching terminal velocity, moviegoers are keen to hear just how good the film is. But reviews are currently nowhere to be seen, despite the the movie premiering on 11 July. So, when does the Oppenheimer review embargo lift?

Review embargoes are standard practice and restrict the coverage of movies, television shows, video games, and other forms of media prior to release. Embargoes are typically enforced to minimise inaccurate reporting and/or to conceal potential flaws in a product.

Journalists are given a specific end date and time for the embargo, after which reviews can be freely published. These usually range from anywhere between a couple of weeks before launch to the actual release date.

With many of Christopher Nolan’s previous films receiving critical praise and Oppenheimer featuring an all-star cast, fans are desperate to know how it has turned out. But when will reviews drop?

Oppenheimer review embargo date

The Oppenheimer review embargo will reportedly lift on 19 July 2023 at 12pm ET.

That means critic reviews of Oppenheimer will be available to read from noon tomorrow in the United States. If this date and time are accurate, Oppenheimer reviews will be released at 5pm BST in the United Kingdom.

Exactly how critics will respond to Oppenheimer has been the subject of significant speculation. This can be attributed to the buzz the film has generated on social media, its release coinciding with Barbie, and the lukewarm response to Nolan’s previous movie Tenet.

Early reactions from critics have been overwhelmingly positive, with some going as far as to call it a “total knockout” and “spectacular achievement”.

But we’ll have to wait and see exactly what they thought to Oppenheimer once the full reviews drop just ahead of its release.
