A lot hinges on the success of Bethesda’s upcoming space RPG, Starfield. 2023 hasn’t been the smoothest of rides for Microsoft’s Xbox. The poorly received launch of Redfall shone a light on the console’s issues with producing strong first party titles. Now, a rumour is circulating that Doom and Wolfenstein developer id Software has been drafted in to improve Starfield‘s combat system.

Of course, this rumour should be taken with a large pinch of salt. However, a 4chan user who claims they have “extremely” close ties to someone who works at id Software says that the developer joined the project in August last year.

According to this individual, id Software came onboard to help improve Starfield‘s combat. It is reportedly “in a vastly better state than it was during the Xbox showcase last year.”

This move would make sense considering that id Software is a subsidiary of ZeniMax Media, the same company that owns Bethesda. They previously helped to refine the gunplay in Fallout 4.

Starfield is set in an entirely new universe that allows players to explore space as part of the crew of Constellation, a group of space explorers on a mission to uncover the mysteries of the galaxy. With a vast open-world environment, players will visit alien planets, interact with various factions and species, engage in space combat, and pilot spacecraft. The game features a branching narrative system that puts player choices and actions at the forefront, which will affect the story’s outcome and ending.

Earlier this week, Starfield‘s official ESRB rating revealed previously unknown information about the game. Including details around the game’s story and gameplay.

A Starfield Direct event is scheduled for 11 June 2023. Bethesda will reportedly reveal more about the game which is set to launch on 6 September for Xbox Series X|S and PC.
