Bandai Namco Entertainment has unveiled the opening cinematic for Tekken 8, the latest instalment in the long-running fighting game series. The company has also confirmed the first Season 1 DLC character – Eddy Gordo.

Posting to X (formerly Twitter), the official Tekken account wrote “Take a stand against your fate. Watch the #TEKKEN8 Opening Movie”.

The cinematic, which begins with a dove flying through the streets of a destroyed city, features almost the entire Tekken 8 roster. Included in the intro movie are Kazuya Mishima, Jin Kazama, Nina Williams, Jack-8, Feng, Hwoarang, Paul Phoenix, Marshall Law, Kuma, Panda, Ling Xiaoyu, and many others.

Characters can be seen fighting on a huge battlefield against soldiers and Jack robots. You can watch the full opening cinematic on YouTube.

Eddy Gordo revealed for Tekken 8 Season 1

Arguably the biggest surprise in the cinematic was the reveal of Eddy Gordo as Tekken 8‘s first Season 1 character.

The fan-favourite Brazilian capoeira master has featured in every instalment since Tekken 3, so his absence in Tekken 8 was widely questioned by fans. However, Bandai Namco has confirmed that he will be the first of four playable characters added to Tekken during Season 1.

The redesigned Eddy will be added to the game in spring 2024, with three more fighters following in summer, autumn and winter respectively. The identities of those characters are yet to be confirmed.

Motion capture footage for Eddy was included in the opening movie and he can be seen saying “Keep a passionate heart and cool head” before facing off with Nina Williams.

Tekken 8‘s demo is available to download now and the full game is set for release on 26 January 2024 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
