It’s been six months since the release of the critically acclaimed A Quiet Place Part II. But fans of the post-apocalyptic movies won’t have to wait long to see more of the franchise. World War Z publisher Saber Interactive have announced they’re working on a video game entry in the series. The A Quiet Place game will be developed by Illogika and Ep1t0me and will tell an original story set in the same universe as the films.

A Quiet Place Game – What do we know?

Details about the A Quiet Place game are fairly scarce outside of the official announcement made by Saber Interactive. However, they did confirm that it will have an original story i.e. it isn’t adapting the plot of the films. Also, it will have “gameplay that captures the compelling suspense, emotion and drama for which the series is famous”.

From that, it’s clear Saber want the game to channel the essence of the films into its core mechanics. In A Quiet Place and its sequel, a family struggle to survive in a world blighted by an alien force with an acute sense of hearing. Even the slightest noise while outside can attract the highly aggressive and deadly aliens. This causes Evelyn and Lee Abbott (Emily Blunt & John Krasinski) to take every precaution possible to protect their kids, including walking barefoot on sand paths and communicating via sign language.

Will it be similar to The Last Of Us?

One glaring similarity to the A Quiet Place films is The Last Of Us games. Both are set in a post-apocalyptic world overrun with a hostile force of sound-sensitive beings. The Last Of Us is one of the best and most successful series of games of the last decade and fans will almost certainly draw comparisons between it and the A Quiet Place game.

This could, however, count against the A Quiet Place video game. Developers at Illogika are Ubisoft alumnus who have experience working on the Rainbow Six and Far Cry series. So, they certainly have the expertise to create a great game. But The Last Of Us sets an almost impossibly high bar. And anything perceived as even slightly less than what TLOU offered will likely be perceived as a negative for the A Quiet Place video game.

That said, Saber, Illogika and Ep1t0me have an opportunity here to deliver something exciting but different in a well-worn genre. To do that, they need to focus on providing a unique story with a high-quality gameplay experience. And if the game ends up being anywhere close to the standard of the films, it’ll be worth playing.

A Quiet Place Game Release Date

So, you’re probably asking “when is the A Quiet Place game coming out?” Saber Interactive haven’t confirmed a specific release date yet, but it is slated for 2022. That means it must be deep into its development cycle. We can expect more information to be revealed later this year.
