The game launched on 7 February for those who pre-ordered the Deluxe Edition, so players have now had some time to get stuck into the Wizarding World RPG.
In Hogwarts Legacy, players join the eponymous school as a fifth-year student in the 1890s. The game takes place a whole century before the Harry Potter novels and films. And this allows it to tell its own story about “a dangerous journey to uncover a hidden truth of the wizarding world.”
As an immersive RPG experience, players can create their own witch or wizard, pick their own wand, and even choose from one of Hogwarts’ four famous houses.
Once you’ve settled into the mythical school of witchcraft and wizardry, you are free to explore, attend classes, learn spells, and discover everything the Wizarding World has to offer.
Even after several hours of playing, there is still plenty more to discover including the mysterious unidentified gear items.

In Hogwarts Legacy, players have free reign to design and customise their character. That includes picking their outfit and accessories.
Gear can be found all over the world. There are hundreds of pieces to collect that allow you to customise your character to your liking.
However, you will eventually discover mysterious ‘unidentified gear’. These items have hidden descriptions and can’t be used immediately.
What is unidentified gear in Hogwarts Legacy? Unidentified gear are special wearable items that need to be processed in the Room of Requirement before they can be worn.
How To Use Unidentified Gear In Hogwarts Legacy
Using these mysterious items isn’t as simple as equipping them in the menu. Instead, players need to first identify them by taking an extra step in the Room of Requirement.
This is how to use unidentified gear in Hogwarts Legacy: You must take the gear to the Desk of Description in the Room of Requirement. The enchanted desk will reveal the item and identify its qualities. You can then equip it in the Gear menu.
The Room of Requirement is unlocked after completing ‘The Room of Requirement’ quest for Professor Weasley. The Desk of Description is available in the room immediately.
