This guide explains how to jump shot in Call of Duty multiplayer and Warzone with a PlayStation or Xbox controller.

Call of Duty is one of the most fast-paced games on the market. With its quick time-to-kill and snappy movement, getting the edge on opponents is absolutely essential. That’s where innovative movement mechanics, like jump shotting, come in.

The reason techniques like this are useful is that they enable you to fire while making yourself hard to hit. This gives you an advantage in tense gunfights.

As the name suggests, a jump shot is when a player jumps while aiming and shooting. Every Call of Duty player will have encountered jump shotting during their time playing the game; however, many also wonder how to do it because it isn’t that simple.

Unfortunately, the standard CoD controller scheme doesn’t lend itself to this unique movement technique because the jump button is mapped to X/A (on Xbox and PlayStation) which requires players to take their thumbs off the right analogue stick.

While it can be tough to get used to, learning how to jump shot is essential if you want to up your game in Call of Duty multiplayer and Warzone. So, let’s take a look at how to do it.

How to jump shot in Call of Duty multiplayer and Warzone

This is how to jump shot in Call of Duty multiplayer and Warzone:

There are two jump shotting methods available to players. The first, and best, option is to invest in a pro controller like the DualSense Edge for PS5 or those made by SCUF. The second option is to use one of Call of Duty‘s preset button layouts. Both methods are detailed below.

Method 1 – Pro Controller

Using the DualSense Edge, a SCUF controller, or another brand of pro controller is the preferred method for jump shots in CoD and Warzone. This is because pro controllers come with customisable back paddles for advanced button layouts.

For this method, simply bind the Jump button (X on PlayStation or A on Xbox) to one of the back paddles. You will then be able to ADS (aim-down-sight) and fire while jumping without having to take your thumb off the right stick.

Method 2 – Use preset control scheme

If you don’t have, or don’t want to buy, a pro controller, the other option is to use one of the preset Call of Duty button layouts that are made for jump shots.

These work by moving the Jump button away from the face buttons and onto the shoulder buttons, making it possible to jump, aim and shoot at the same time.

To set this up, follow the steps below:

  1. On any platform, navigate to Settings > Controller > Edit Button Layout > Button Layout Preset.
  2. From the list of presets, select either L1 Button Jumper (PS5)/Bumber Jumper (Xbox), L1 Button Jumper Tactical/Bumper Jumper Tactical, or Beast.
  3. Use L1 on PlayStation or LB on Xbox to jump while shooting.

There are two variants of the Jumper control schemes depending on if you usually use the Default or Tactical layouts which swap the Melee and Prone buttons. This means that if you currently use the Tactical layout, make sure you swap to the Jumper Tactical layout.

The Beast scheme is the same except that it also maps Melee to the right shoulder button and Lethal Equipment to the right stick.

And there you have it – now you know how to jump shot in Call of Duty. Be aware, both methods take quite a bit of time to get used to and practise makes perfect.
