Modern Warfare Zombies (‘MWZ’ for short) has proven to be a fan-favourite mode among Modern Warfare III players since its launch last month. The spiritual successor to DMZ channels Call of Duty‘s classic Zombies experience into an open-world Warzone adjacent mode that has been nothing short of a hit. Now, MWZ is getting a variety of new content in the upcoming Season 1 update.

On 30 November, Activision unveiled the Modern Warfare III Season 1 roadmap, including a plethora of exciting new stuff for MWZ. Fans of the new Zombies mode will have plenty to keep them going back into plague ridden Urzikstan.

The first season of Modern Warfare III kicks-off on 6 December. Let’s take a look at what’s new in MWZ Season 1.

MWZ Season 1 Update

New Story Act

Season 1 introduces an all-new fourth story Act to MWZ.

As Operators venture further into the Exclusion Zone, they stumble upon a strange anomaly. Sent to check it out, Deadbolt Strike Teams find themselves thrust into the mysterious Dark Aether for the first time. This kicks off a fresh story mission, testing players’ abilities ahead of the next stage of the fight.

Dark Aether Rifts

Located inside the Dark Aether, Dark Aether Rifts are unlocked by finding Sigils. After venturing inside, players will find themselves inside a labyrinth with 30 minutes to complete “a series of increasingly chaotic objectives” with the promise of high value rewards.

New Wonder Weapon

Wonder Weapons like the Ray Gun have become staples of Call of Duty Zombies. In Season 1, a new Wonder Weapon – the V-R11 – will be added to MWZ. The new weapon has the ability to transform zombies into humans and vice-versa.

Activision explained: “transformed humans join you in the fight, drawing the attention of nearby zombies, while transformed zombies will commence their ceaseless hunt for your enemy’s flesh!”

Classified Schematics

Season 1 of MWZ also sees the introduction of three ‘Classified Schematics’. They are: Dog Bone, Golden Armor Plate, and Aether Blade.

The Dog Bone brings a powerful and friendly Hell Hound buddy to your side. This fiery pet will stick with you, fighting off enemies until it gets too hurt. It’s a useful item in Season 1 for when things get intense and you need backup.

The Golden Armor Plate makes your armor plates repair automatically over time, as well as giving you some seriously helpful damage resistances to boot.

The Aether Blade is a special throwing knife that acts like a boomerang, homing towards the next nearest target after its initial hit. Best of all, it is infinite meaning you’ll never run out.

New Boss – Warlord

Terminus – the preeminent mercenary force in the Urzikstan Exclusion Zone – will introduce a new Warlord boss in Season 1 of MWZ: Dokkaebi.

“South Korean born Dokkaebi will bring with her an intimate understanding of Electronic Warfare, and a fleet of self-programmed autonomous drones, ready to wreak carnage on Operation Deadbolts Operatives from the skies.”

To take the fight to the new Warlord, squads will have to infiltrate Dokkaebi’s fortress.
