Top Boy has returned to Netflix for its fifth and final season. The acclaimed crime drama tells the story of London drug dealers Dushane and Sully and their ongoing struggles while attempting to run a growing criminal empire. One of the leading members of their gang is Jaq, portrayed by Jasmine Jobson. Jaq is close to a woman named Lauryn, who she frequently calls her sister. But are Lauryn and Jaq actually sisters in Top Boy?

The reason viewers may be confused about this is because of the heavy use of slang in the show. Some viewers will likely be unfamiliar with a few of the words being used. Similarly, words such as “bro”, “brother”, “sis”, and “sister” are commonly used when referring to close friends.

Additionally, Jaq and Lauryn’s parents are never seen. However, Jaq is frequently called “aunty” in relation to Lauryn’s baby. But are they actually related by blood?

Are Lauryn and Jaq actually sisters in Top Boy?

Lauryn and Jaq are sisters and blood relatives. They share the same last name (Lawrence) and Jaq is the aunty of Lauryn’s child.

Despite being sisters, their childhood is never explored in any detail and it is not explained which of them is the eldest.

What happened to Lauryn in Top Boy season 5?

Lauryn murdered her abusive partner Curtis at the end of Top Boy season 4. She was pregnant with his child and subsequently gave birth to a baby boy.

In season 5, she is shown to be living with Jaq who is helping her raise the baby. However, Lauryn is depressed and struggling to cope.

In episode 2, Jaq spends the day with Lauryn in an attempt to cheer her up. This appears to have worked until Jaq and Becks leave Lauryn alone in the house that night.

Lauryn takes “dark” and gets in the bath. She ultimately drowns in the bath and dies.
