It seems like forever since the last Uncharted game. But the adventures of Nathan Drake and co are still very much alive in the minds of fans.
The mainline series concluded in 2016 with the unforgettable PS4 instalment Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. It brought nine years of incredible action and storytelling to a close with a bang.
While Naughty Dog did treat players to spin-off game The Lost Legacy one year later, it hasn’t stopped fans from clamouring for more.
While there is no word on a new Uncharted title, fans are still debating which game from the series is the best of them all. Each main entry was reviewed positively by critics, with 2, 3, and 4 being considered particularly special.
Over on the Uncharted subreddit, Redditors have been responding to a question posted by u/kurtmack13: “How do you rank the Uncharted games?”, they asked.
u/kurtmack13 provided their own list, in which they placed A Thief’s End in first and Among Thieves in second. And with numerous responses now in from other fans, it’s clear that the top spot is an extremely close contest between the second and fourth games.
u/Zealos57 also ranked A Thief’s End and Among Thieves as the top two titles, as did u/DavidKirk2000. Others felt that Uncharted 2 deserved first place, such as u/Complete-Course-281 who ranked the games as follows and provided reasoning:
“1. Uncharted 2, nostalgia, an amazing story and improved gameplay over the first makes this my favourite game ever.
2. Uncharted 4, gameplay is the best it’s ever been, story was good but I missed the supernatural elements.
3. Uncharted 3, gameplay was smoother than 2 but the story suffered from being more style than substance.
4. Uncharted 1, introduced us into the world and the characters and gunplay/exploration we’re all used to.
5. Uncharted (Lost Legacy), a good game with everything good about Uncharted 4 but just not that memorable to me.”
u/boo-galoo90 agreed, calling this the “best list” in the thread. They added “It’s not like [Naughty Dog] didn’t have some kind of supernatural they couldn’t put into 4, we were just expected to love a character who had no mention through I think [four] Uncharted games at that point if you include the psp”.
With the second and fourth games being standout favourites among fans, we certainly hope that any new Uncharted game incorporates the best elements of those titles.
As for my personal favourite, I’d have to award the crown to Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. It’s the game that introduced me to the series and had me hooked from the get-go. Among Thieves was even among my first platinum trophies and remains one of my all-time gaming highlights.
