This guide answers “what is G-Walking?” and explains how to G-Walk in Warzone 2.0 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

Warzone 2.0 is well underway and fans have had a couple of weeks to get stuck into the revamped battle royale. As excitement for its launch turns to discussion about meta weapons and mechanics, players are looking for every advantage they can get.

When it comes to Call of Duty, players will spend countless hours searching for something that will give them the edge. And sometimes that comes in the form of exploited movement mechanics.

In 2019’s Modern Warfare and the original Warzone, “slide cancelling” was hailed as the ultimate movement exploit.

The slide cancel manoeuvre involved sprinting, sliding, then jumping out of the slide to continue your momentum and shift your hit box. This would make it harder for enemies to hit you as you pushed towards them.

While it was popular, slide cancelling proved controversial and many considered it frustratingly unrealistic. That’s why fans of realistic gameplay were happy when they realised it was impossible to slide cancel in Modern Warfare 2.

With the removal of slide cancelling, many of its advocates have been searching for the new meta movement exploit in Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2.0. And now they think they’ve found it.

This week, social media has been flooded with clips and reports of “G-Walking”. If you follow Call of Duty at all online, you will almost certainly have seen it. But you’re probably asking yourself “what is G-Walking?”

While it’s pretty new and apparently difficult to master, it’s definitely worth learning about the G-Walk as it’s sure to take Warzone 2.0 by storm over the coming weeks.

So, let’s go over what is G-Walking in Warzone 2.0 and Modern Warfare 2 and explain how to G-Walk…

What Is G-Walking in Warzone 2.0 and Modern Warfare 2?

G-Walking is the latest movement exploit that players are using to their advantage in Call of Duty.

What is G-Walking in Warzone 2.0 and Modern Warfare 2? G-Walking is a movement exploit that involves players rapidly shifting between sprinting and going prone. This is advantageous because it causes a player’s hit box to change without losing momentum and manoeuvrability, thus making them harder to hit.

The “G-Walking” name comes from the resulting movement, which resembles a walking gorilla. Operators appear hunched over as they quickly bob up and down.

OK – so now you know what G-Walking is, you probably want to know how to do it.

If you play on console, the bad news is that you can’t G-Walk. It is only possible on PC.

While a prototype controller method is available on PC, the only true way to G-Walk is with keyboard and mouse – at least for now.

How to G-Walk in Warzone 2.0 and Modern Warfare 2

This is how to G-Walk in Warzone 2.0 and Modern Warfare 2:

  1. Go to the Settings menu and select ‘Keyboard and Mouse’.
  2. Under ‘Movement Behaviors’, turn ‘Automatic Sprint’ off and turn ‘Tactical Sprint Behavior’ to ‘Single Tap Sprint’.
  3. Next, go to ‘Keybinds’ and bind ‘Prone’ to mouse scroll wheel down.

Once you have correctly changed your settings, enter a game.

You now need to find the sweet spot between sprinting and going prone. Start by breaking into a sprint and quickly flicking down on your mouse wheel before sprinting again.

The pattern works as follows: sprinting > prone > sprinting > prone > sprinting > prone…
