Fallout 4 players have only just found a cute Dogmeat easter egg

It might not feel like it, but Fallout 4 is almost ten years old. While players have been exploring The Commonwealth in their trusty sets of Power Armor for nearly a decade, some are still finding things they’ve never seen before. And some are only just learning about an adorable easter egg involving Dogmeat.

With most of your time in Fallout 4 being spent busy raising settlements for the Minuteman or hunting down Synths for the Institute, this particular easter egg is easy to miss.

Over on Reddit, one fan shared that they had just realised that there were cats in the game. As of writing, the post has over 800 upvotes. However, in the comments, conversation turned to another animal-centric topic: what happens when you give Dogmeat a teddy bear.

“If you didn’t know about cats, then you probably don’t know about putting a teddy bear in Dogmeat’s inventory. Do it. Trust me,” wrote one Reddit user.

Dogmeat is, of course, the pet dog that belongs to the Sole Survivor (the player character) in Fallout 4. For most players (myself included), he’s the one and only companion they explore The Commonwealth with.

As it turns out, Dogmeat will play with a teddy bear if you place one in his inventory. In an extremely cute animation, Dogmeat will throw the teddy up in the air and rag it around. He will do this periodically as long as he has a teddy in his inventory.

“I just saw the teddy bear thing for the first time last night! Been playing this game since release and had never seen him play with one,” said another player in the comments.

Apparently, Dogmeat can also find teddy bears lying around. He will then pick them up and play with them, too.

It’s nice to know that dogs can still find time to do normal dog things even in Fallout‘s post-apocalyptic wasteland.
