This God of War Ragnarok guide explains how to reach the second chain to open the gate to Nidavellir in Aurvangar Wetlands.

God of War Ragnarok is the sequel to 2018’s acclaimed God of War reboot. After four years, it’s safe to say fans are relishing the chance to jump back into Kratos’ god-sized shoes.

Despite delays and a release on the PS4 that prompted concerns, God of War Ragnarok has launched to astonishingly strong reviews. With ten-out-of-tens abound, it’s clear the game is a standout title for Sony and a worthy successor to the 2018 title.

In the new sequel, we rejoin Kratos and Atreus as they journey to stop the cataclysmic Ragnarok and learn more about the latter’s true identity as the god Loki.

Along the way the father and son duo join forces with some old friends. They also come up against new, dangerous foes like Thor and Odin.

However, after four years, it can be difficult to remember the story of the previous game and who everyone is.

The same goes for God of War Ragnarok‘s gameplay, too.

Despite sinking tens of hours into the last game, it’s only natural to forget how things work in this follow-up. Be it in combat, navigation, skills, or collectibles.

Like the previous game, God of War Ragnarok requires you to solve puzzles in order to progress.

Early in the game, Kratos and Atreus travel to Svartalfheim and find themselves in the Aurvangar Wetlands. While moving through this area by boat, players must solve puzzles to open gates so they can progress to Nidavellir.

One such puzzle requires players to pull two chains to fully open a gate blocking the way forward. Reaching the first chain is easy enough. But figuring out how to get to the second is a bit more challenging.

Check out the steps below if you want to know how to reach the second chain in Aurvangar Wetlands to open the gate to Nidavellir…

How To Reach Second Chain In Aurvangar Wetlands In God of War Ragnarok

As mentioned, reaching the first chain is straghtforward.

Dock your boat on the shore after turning right at the gate. After docking, follow the path to the right until you reach the large block suspended by a chain. Break the chain by throwing your axe, then pull the chain on the other side to lower half of the gate.

This is how to reach the second chain in Aurvangar Wetlands in God of War Ragnarok. Freeze the first geyser and cross to the other side. Uncover another geyser using the Blades of Chaos.

Go back to the first geyser and freeze it with the axe. This will increase the pressure of the uncovered geyser and turn the wheel.

A large block will lower above the first geyser. Run into the open area and face the structure and both geysers. Time an axe throw just right to break the chain holding the large block above the first geyser.

If you miss, simply use the axe to freeze the geyser, recall it, and quickly throw it again to break the chain.

Go to the fallen block and climb onto it by pressing circle. Throw the axe at the uncovered geyser to freeze it.

Freeze the uncovered geyser to raise the block you’re standing on.

This will increase the pressure of the first geyser and cause it to lift the block (and Kratos) up to a platform. The second chain is on this platform – pull it to open the gate.

Pull the chain to open the gate.

You can now return to your boat and progress through the gate to Nidavellir.
