Amnesia: The Bunker is the latest instalment in the Amnesia series. As the fourth Amnesia game, The Bunker has a lot to live up to. That’s because the previous titles are well-regarded as nerve-shredding survival horror games. Of course, as with any new game in a long-running series, players can expect fresh features in The Bunker. Previous Amnesia games were all single-player experiences. But what about Amnesia: The Bunker – is it multiplayer and does it have co-op?

Survival horror games are often popular candidates for incorporating multiplayer elements. That’s primarily because some gamers may not be brave enough to play a horror game alone. If co-op is included, it’s often a comfort to know that you have a friend nearby.

Amnesia: The Bunker takes place during World War I. You play as Henri Clement, a French soldier trapped in an underground bunker where mysterious experiments have taken place. To make matters worse, Henri is being tracked by a creature called the Beast. Thankfully, it doesn’t like the light. But if you allow the bunker to fall into darkness, the hunt truly begins. But can you bring a friend into the bunker with you?

Amnesia: The Bunker is a single-player game with no multiplayer or co-operative elements. Players must survive the bunker alone.

This approach makes sense as the ‘horror’ component of survival horror games is significantly reduced when other players can participate.

In The Bunker, players must explore the eponymous location and gather revolver ammunition and other resources needed to survive. In order to light up and escape the bunker (which is described as a dimly lit semi-open world), players must keep its generator stocked up on fuel and make use of a dynamo flashlight.

Players will soon find themselves pursued by the Beast if power isn’t quickly restored. However, The Bunker does allow players to think on their feet and find alternative solutions to the game’s various problems.

Unfortunately for the faint-hearted, you will have to navigate the bunker and take on the beast by yourself. No one is coming to save you.
